Seeds of Change is an 8-week therapeutic group program for kids ages 4-6! The program focuses on helping kids adjust to changes in their lives, appropriately express feelings, make friends, and build self-confidence through creative play and fun activities.
Seeds of Change was developed by a group of moms who have years of professional experience in child development. They recognize that raising a child requires a community that provides support, understanding and guidance. Seeds of Change is a therapeutic group experience which promotes your child’s ability to adjust to the many challenges of growing up!
Program Description
Your child will follow the story of a somewhat overwhelmed, and occasionally grumpy, seed as it learns to grow and accept change by gaining awareness and skills about itself.
Class 1: What Does It Mean to Grow?
Your child will learn about the meaning of growth and change. They will develop an awareness of how change can affect us and be introduced to different tools that will help them adapt to change.
Class 2: Does Anyone Ask the Seed if it Wants to Grow?
This class focuses on recognizing feelings and accepting that we may have many different emotional reactions to change at the same time. Your child will explore the use of art to improve emotional understanding and acceptance without judgment.
Class 3: Weather Report- Feelings Are Signals
Your child will gain an understanding that feelings are “signals” and part of our mind-body connection. Other “signal systems” and senses of the body are introduced. Your child will learn to use their senses to help understand their experiences and regulate their bodies, minds, and emotions.
Class 4: Protect Your Roots (Stems, Leaves, Flower)!
In this class, your child learns about the need to routinely care for all aspects of ourselves, body, mind, and emotional selves. Emphasis is placed on developing routines to help maintain and encourage growth.
Class 5: Who Are the Gardeners and How Do You Find Them?
Your child learns and explores the need for everyone to have caring people in their lives to support them. Children practice sharing difficult emotions and asking for help in ways that encourage support from others.
Class 6: Growing in a Garden
Your child will be introduced to the idea of growing in a community and the importance of connecting with others while also allowing space for themselves as individuals. Your child will be encouraged to think about healthy boundaries with others.
Class 7: Who Are You Callin’ a Weed?!
This class discusses conflict as something that can occur in any relationship and introduces ideas about reducing conflict, resolving conflict, and apologizing for hurtful behavior.
Class 8: A Seed Has a Lot of Needs!
The group is brought to a close with a focus on balancing our needs to care for our personal wellness (mind, body, emotional selves), our relationships with others, and our “dreaming” selves. The balance of these three main needs provide a foundation for children to feel stable and strong, especially through growth and change!
